9 Days: Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Just a quick ‘warm and fuzzy’ post – it’s been cold and rainy here all day so the dogs (and my pictures) had to be cooped up inside today.
When we first went to look at Bailey at his foster parents’ house, his name was “Jimmy”. I’m sorry, but “Jimmy” just did not fit an adorable blonde puppy. After we officially adopted him, Jimmy had to have a name change. We went through tons of names and finally narrowed it down to 2 – “Brody” or “Bailey”. While we were trying to decide between the two, Justin and I went out for ice cream. Voilà! Bailey’s Irish Cream ice cream. And that’s how Bailey was named “Bailey”. Little did we know that we would eventually run into many other “Bailey” dogs (apparently it’s one of the top 10 most popular dog names), but it seems to fit him and his personality.
So … how did your dog get his/her name?

I’ve never had Bailey’s Irish Cream ice cream. Does it have a shot of liquor? 😉
Oscar was dubbed “Oscar” because he came into our lives shortly after I finished reading “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.” The name was just stuck in my head! Not to mention Oscar and the protagonist had several things in common (aka pleasantly plump builds). 😀
The homemade kind definitely has some Bailey’s topping – the storemade kinds that I have had have it mixed in (I think they just use a vanilla ice cream base).
And that’s a neat story behind Oscar’s name! To me, it certainly seems to fit his apparent personality and looks well and it’s a unique, cute name for a Chi 🙂
Oscar wants Evee to know he’s also part Jack Russell—it adds to his mysteriousness. 😉
Oh very cool! Evee loves JRTs and Chis, so she’ll be very happy to know that Oscar has the best of both worlds 😛

Bailey is the perfect name, Mum looooves Baileys too, I can’t say anything, cos I’ve never been allowed it……
I got my name for quite a few reasons that all just fit together – Mum’s always loved Snoopy, Cory (age 10 then) had Snoopy toys and suggested the name and Mum’s younger brother had a fisher price Snoopy when he was a kid that Mum had just inherited…..on top of all this it suited my look (even though I’m not a Beagle) and personality…..:) I answer to other variations too, like, Snoop Dawg, Snoops, Snoopinator and Snoopidoo – in fact, if you have a Dentastix in your hand I will answer to anything – haha

Snoopy, I think your name fits you perfectly! You look like a fun-loving, comical guy just like the Snoopy in Peanuts. That’s neat that you have nicknames as well – Snoopidoo is really cute! And all of our dogs’ second name is apparently “cookie” or “treat” so we know how that goes 🙂
He is SOOO cute and the name is perfect for him. Casey’s name just came up out of the blue. We saw her and knew we’d be going back to pick her up the next day. My husband said, “How about Casey?” and it stuck. We adopted Romeo when he was 6-years-old and already had the name. I wasn’t crazy about it. But I didn’t feel right about changing it after 6 years. And as we’ve realized how lovey he is, it’s actually the perfect name.
Sadly, there is no special story behind Chester and Gretel. Chester’s former dog mom named him so he just came with his name. Gretel came with her name from the rescue too. We didn’t change it because I kind of liked it and we figured she was going through enough changes and didn’t need to try to learn a new name too.
I love the names Chester and Gretel and they fit together as a pair and are adorable for two Doxies. I didn’t know that you rescued both of them, so that’s awesome! 🙂
Thanks! I really like the names Casey and Romeo – I’ve never met a dog named Casey before and it’s a cute, pretty name for a pup. Is Romeo lovey with other dogs or people or both? He looks like a lovey guy 🙂
My dog Daley and I met many Baileys over the years and he loved them all! I’ve never met a Bailey who wasn’t friendly and fun! … and adorable!

Chandra – thanks for stopping by our blog! All of the Baileys that we have met have been great, cute dogs as well.
Maple was previously known as Lola. At 6.5 months old, we didn’t think she would be that attached to her name (and we felt it might be good to give her a ‘leash’ in life) so we came up with Miss Little Red Maple Leaf as a symbolic representation of her red-coloured coat and my home country (which I miss very much now that I’ve been living abroad for almost 6 years).
That’s such a neat story behind Maple’s pretty name, and I think it fits her much better than “Lola”. I’ve never met another Maple before either, so it’s unique!
When I found Grace, her name was Tammy. That just didn’t seem to suir her. I felt she had a beautiful, graceful look and stride, and my mother’s middle name is Grace. My poor mom, mother of three daughters and not one grandchild, has 7 granddogs, so I figured one could be named after her! She absolutely loves that she finally has a namesake. And I think Grace really suits Grace. Thanks for the question — was fun to think about and read other stories.
Aw what a great story behind Grace’s name! She definitely is a beautiful, graceful-looking girl. Diesel’s middle name is “Wayne”, which is also a part of my dad’s name. He used to think I just used that to get him to like Diesel Wayne or D.W., but now he thinks it’s cute 🙂

So funny how we all think (even when naming our kids) that our stories are unique, and then we hear similar stories to our own. Your Bailey is adorable!

Oh my goodness haha!! I don’t remember ever reading that post, otherwise I would have said something! That is too creepy/cool lol!
We, too, rescued a dog. “Callie” was previously named Buffy. She is a so-called designer mix dog that was flown in from Michigan to Virginia at 6 weeks of age. We have not had her DNA tested, but there is no way she is the combination on her transport papers. Callie was “tried out” by many prospective families, but was given back each time due to her lack of training and resulting behavioral issues. Thanks to a lot of patience and love (plus $300 to “spring her” because my husband felt sorry for her), Callie celebrated her first birthday with us. She is a permanent and much loved part of our family. Back to the name, our middle daughter would love to live or go to school in California—hence the name 🙂

Thunder is named after a hunting spot. Storm’s name came about because it was very stormy the night we brought her home and we seemed to have a weather theme going. 🙂

I love the name Bailey and I also love Bailey’s Irish Cream ice cream! We had a hard time choosing a name for Daisy, it was one of several we were considering. But my daughter always liked the line in “You’ve Got Mail” where Meg Ryan says that she thinks “daisies are the friendliest flower”, and that description also fit our new puppy. That made our decision!
We also didn’t realize Daisy was such a popular name for dogs (and cats), but now everywhere we go, people are always saying “I had a dog named Daisy!” It makes them smile, so I guess Meg Ryan’s statement was true. 🙂
Aaahhhh… sorry, I must intrude here because “You’ve Got Mail” is one of my all-time favourite movies! And I love the scene that you’re referring to with Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, and the daisies. Yes, indeed, what a fitting name for your Daisy!

Gus’s name came from Cinderella, the portly mouse named Gus-Gus. He was almost named Newman, from Seinfeld!
That was my first thought upon learning Gus’s name: Cinderella!
I know —- it’s making things fly by even faster now that I can count down on two hands! 🙂 I love Gus-Gus from Cinderella and that is such a cute, fitting name for him.
I took forever picking Luna’s name.. and I have since run into quite a few Lunas, one of which is even a Vizsla. Ah well, it still suits her well. I have trained quite a few baileys but it does seem to fit him.

I’ve met a couple horses named “Luna”, but never a dog. It’s a pretty name which matches a pretty Vizsla 🙂
Bailey is such a sweet name – and probably why it’s so popular! It fits your Bailey perfectly too.
Our own dog Toki originally came to us from the rescue organization with the name “Snow”, but it was more of a placeholder name for her because she was found as a three-month old stray pup on the streets. We eventually named her “Santoki”, which means Mountain Bunny in Korean. It’s a character from a Korean nursery rhyme, and we thought it was fitting due to Toki’s enormous(ly cute) ears and white color. : )
