Sports Saturday: Our New Agility Ring!

Remember when I said we were moving way back when?  Well we’ve been at our new place for a few months now and we absolutely love it!  One of our favorite things about living here is our very own agility ring.  Over the past several weeks I’ve been building my own agility equipment, made to NADAC specifications, and it’s finally all finished and set up (special thanks to Justin, my mom and dad, Justin’s mom and dad, and my grandpa for helping me here and there with the various projects).  The pups love having their own agility playground and can see it from my bedroom window, so while I’m training one pup, the others will intently watch and study!  And of course, what better way to wind down and relax after a long day than playing a little backyard agility?  🙂

Practice like you play!!

Kylie loving her new jumps!

Don't hit your eye on those weaves, Dies!

"Go hoop, Evee B!"

Bailey "walking it" on the new A-frame!

P.S. We are now on Facebook, so stop on by and say hi!!

Sports Saturday: An Agility Hero!

This story just melts my heart!  It is one that touched me in so many ways, with its strong ties to occupational therapy and animal-based therapy.  85-year-old Ms. VanDeCarr is truly an inspiration — “As long as I’m doing agility, I don’t have any aches or pains or any problems.”  Enjoy!  🙂

Sports Saturday: The Agility Girls!

So what do you think?  Did the girls beat the boys?  😉

Sports Saturday: Agility Lesson!

This morning we had our first agility lesson in over 3 months.  Between graduation, interviews for graduate school and grown-up jobs, going on short summer trips, and then moving across town, we were never able to squeeze in an agility lesson!  I am so happy that we were able to have a lesson today, as were the boys (we switch dogs each lesson).  Diesel and Bailey did really well, especially for having been off contact obstacles in 3 months.  I was super pleased with Diesel’s weave pole performance as well as his 2-on-2-off contacts on the see-saw and A-frame.  Here are some pictures from today — I think they show how happy the boys were to be playing agility on a nice Saturday morning.  🙂

Bailey LOVES his tunnels!!

"Diesel, HERE walk-it!!" Right after this jump is an obstacle discrimination with the entrances to the tunnel and A-frame next to each other, making it imperative that your dog follow your lead (and that you give accurate, timely directions!).

A nice peak over the A-frame.
