Wahoo! Fun Outside — The Big Photo Post.

WAHOO!

Finally, finally, finally we got a break in the rain.  The weather showed 3-hours of cloudy skies with just a 10% chance of rain, so Justin and I packed up the dogs and headed over to our favorite park for a couple hours.  I was so happy to be able to try and take some action shots for the first time with the new camera.  I’m pretty happy with these first attempts, pulled straight from the camera (click on the photos to see the higher-quality versions).  As you can see, everyone had a blast romping around in the 3-foot-tall grass and playing tag.  And more importantly, everyone’s spirits (including mine) are now up!  🙂

The sky of doom that refuses to leave Blacksburg.

"Oh my gosh, spring grass is the BEST!"

E-yay!

Go, go, go!

Miss Evee B.

Happy girlie!

HAHA apparently this is the face you make when you exit the 3-foot-tall wall of grass.

Not quite as hilarious as Kylie's face, but still pretty funny.

And here's one way to help build up reliable recalls (hot dogs!).

And best of all, the dogs are now conked out in front of the TV.  Tired dogs are happy dogs which make for happy owners.  🙂

  1. Oh, I’m so envious of those outdoors! What I wouldn’t give for open land like that so my dogs can run around. They look so happy. I bet they were tired! When our dogs are super tired after an outing like that, we call them “dead dogs,” when they’re so tired they don’t respond to anything.

    • Having tons of open space is definitely a perk of living in the middle of nowhere. 🙂 Yes, they were SO happy to be there and they sure where tired when we got home. I guess running through that grass proved quite a workout for them. And that’s too funny — but “dead dogs” are happy, content dogs, for sure!

  2. Does the “B” in Evee’s name stand for “Baby,” by any chance? I frequently call Oscar “Oscar Baby,” so those two might already have the same last name. 😉

    • It stands for “Bichon” actually lol. It may be silly, but I’ve always called her Evee Bichon or Evee B. for short. But Oscar and Evee are clearly destined for each other 🙂

  3. glad you had a break in weather. Gonne be hot here this weekend but no rain… so maybe a trip to the river (if it’s low enough) will be in order this weekend. That looks like a great place to run the pups! Lucky you.
    What DSLR did you get?
    Have a great weekend

    • Boy were we glad to be able to get outside and take a break, and it finally broke the poor dogs’ rainy day blues. That park is our favorite place to go to since it’s completely open and unfenced. We love going to the river as well – hope you get a chance to head out there! And it’s a Nikon D3100. So far, we really like it! It seems to be a great entry-level DSLR.

  4. It feels good to see that beautiful green grass! It’s drizzling here as I write and more is forecast. Ugh. The pups look very happy to stretch their legs. Grace and I are envious!

    • It certainly did – it felt SO good to be there and everyone enjoyed the inevitable Blacksburg breeze, freshly cut grass, and smell of rain in the distance. The dogs were delighted to be there and they shouting high barks of joy 🙂

  5. What a great post! Every picture is a picture of pure joy. Love the lolling tongues and happy faces – it’s like a celebration of spring! 😀 Have a great weekend!

  6. They look like they’re having so much fun. And they look like loads of fun too. Great shots.

    • They are such fun, happy dogs — I can’t imagine life without them! And thanks – I’m pretty happy with how this first set of action shots came out. Hopefully they’ll improve with time/practice.

  7. That’s more like it, I like the happy faces better than the long ones! It’s always nice to see them running around with their tongue hanging to their knees 🙂 As you say, tired dogs are happy dogs. x

  8. Nice! I use roast beef for the recalls, but it will not deter Delilah if she is on the hunt for a squirrel. 😦

    • Any high-value meat reward will work well with our guys. And it’s hard to break Bailey’s focus from a squirrel too – they’re just too much fun, apparently!

  9. Wow!! Fantastic photos. You have really beautiful Aussies – always been one of my favorite breeds. Looking forward to following your blog.

  10. What a good looking bunch of dogs. They look like they are having a blast!

  11. Evee B. looks so content and happy! Love that sweet smile that starts in her eyes. She looks like a joyful, young pup here. Great shots of the pretty old girl!

    • Evee is my little baby girl and I don’t know what I’d ever do without her. She has such a big heart and I’m glad that you can see that in the photos. 🙂

  12. Woot woot! I love photo-heavy posts! Your pictures turned out great – I SOOO struggle with action shots, they always come out so dark. Yours look fab!

Kylie looks like a smart fox in that picture. I loved it. I never knew before till seeing so many of your pictures, that dogs run with their tounges out. Its always funny to see it.

    • Kylie sure is smart, but I’m not sure that she is a sly as a fox. 😛 I’m glad that you are learning some dog things from my blog — the pups always run with their tongues out when they’re having fun 🙂

  14. Your new camera takes great pictures!

  15. That’s the grass if fun face 🙂
